Our sixth production sale held on the 17 August 2011 was a great success. This can to a large extent be attributed to the restocking of farms after a long drought as well as the general increase in demand for cattle. The support of buyers has been phenomenal over the years and has resulted in a 100% sale of all bulls and females since the inception of the sale.
121 buyers from all parts of the country registered for the sale. The average price for the 50 bulls on the sale was R34 860. The top priced bull was sold by Glyn Handley and sons for R80 000 to Fourie Scheepers from Fouriesburg, Fourie also bought the second highest priced bull for R70 000 from Peter Knott. Darryl Fetting bought a stud bull from Glyn Handley for R60 000. There were 7 bulls sold to stud breeders for an average price of R51 714.
There were 43 bulls sold to commercial farmers for an average of R32 116 with prices ranging from R20 000 to R42 000. The top priced commercial bull bred by Glyn Handley and sons was sold to Ferdie Hempel for R42 000. The next highest price bull was sold by Justin Stirk for R41 000 to R.A. Painter.
The demand for females was also brisk with the top price of R28 000 for a ‘Golden Oldie’ stud cow bred by Glyn Handley. Stud females averaged R16 324. The pregnant commercial females sold for an average of R10 941 and mateable heifers for R8950.
We would like to thank all buyers, under bidders and supporters alike for their support on the day of the sale. Your continued support of the Frontier sale is invaluable and we trust that if you bought any animals that they will do well for you.
We would also like to say a big thank you to all our generous sponsors for their contribution to the sale.
Our next sale will be held on the 15 August 2012. Our wish last year for a year of plentiful rain and green grass has materialized, long may it last! |
